DMSO – The Breakthrough Molecule That Refuses to Be Ignored
Since its discovery more than 50 years ago, Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) has captured the attention of scientists worldwide — earning 1000s of research publications for its remarkable abilities.
DMSO doesn’t just act on the surface; it works at the cellular level, rapidly crossing biological barriers, enabling the realization of its "whole-body" benefits.
Despite immense scientific backing, widespread adoption slowed | not due to a lack of effectiveness, but owing to pharmaceutical resistance to a low-cost, naturally derived compound with myriad uses and benefits.
Today, DMSO remains one of the most intriguing and versatile compounds in modern health science.
Vets use it. Is there any reason why it should not be in every home medicine cabinet?
Science-Backed Properties of DMSO
- Anti-carcinogenic | Bio-availability enhancer
- Diuretic | Scar tissue reversing
- Cell protective | Antioxidant
- Radiation protective | Anti-coagulant (inhibits clotting)
- Wound healing | Oxygen saturator
- Anti-anaemic | Heavy metal detoxifier
- Anti-inflammatory
- Analgesic, nerve blocking (pain relieving)
- Moderate antibiotic (not harmful to probiotics)
Shortened list of the conditions it has been used for:
Acne, ADHD, Arthritis, Back pain, Dementia, Down’s syndrome, Dyslexia, MS, Lyme disease, PMS, Restless legs syndrome, Rheumatism, Shingles, Stroke, Tinnitus, UTIs etc.
Common Concentration Ranges
70% — Very common (70ml DMSO + 30ml distilled water per 100ml)
50% — Balanced (50ml DMSO + 50ml aloe or water)
40% — Gentle (40ml DMSO + 60ml diluent)
25% — Very gentle; suitable for sensitive or thin skin
10% — Light cosmetic formula
Step-by-Step Preparation
- Prepare workspace: Wipe surface clean. Wash and dry hands. Remove all scented. products from the area.
- Use non-reactive container: Glass or stainless steel only — no regular plastics.
- Add diluent first: Pour carrier (water, aloe, oil) into the container first. This is different from topical layering, where DMSO goes on skin first.
- Add DMSO slowly: Pour gently to avoid splashing. If crystallised, warm in hands or lukewarm water first.
- Mix gently: Use a glass or stainless-steel stirrer. Some oil-based blends may separate when resting — this is normal.
- Transfer & label: Store in an amber glass bottle. Label with contents, percentage, and preparation date.
Caution
Always apply to clean skin and use clean hands. No soap or cream residue.
Avoid contact with metals and plastics.
NB: Never mix DMSO with any alcohol. Wait 48 hours after the last use of DMSO before any consumption of alcohol.

In May of this year, I stubbed my little toe terribly. It was swollen and ached for a couple of months. It was taking so long to heal until I began doing regular foot baths following the Foot Bath Protocol which includes the use of DMSO. Within days the pain virtually subsided!
